Telegram QR Code Generator
On this page
Telegram uses a link format that makes QR codes more practical than most other platforms. The t.me links are short by design, which means the QR pattern is less dense and scans reliably even when printed at smaller sizes. For channels and groups that are actively trying to grow an audience, a printable QR code is one of the more direct ways to pull people in from the physical world.
This tool takes any Telegram link you paste in, encodes it into a QR code, and lets you download it as PNG, WEBP, or SVG. No account required. The code is static and does not expire.
Telegram link types and what they do
Telegram is not just a personal messaging app. It has several distinct types of links, and the one you use depends on what you are trying to share.
Personal usernames. If your Telegram account has a username set, your link is https://t.me/yourusername. When someone opens this link on a phone with Telegram installed, it opens a conversation with you. Without a username set, you cannot create a public link to your personal account, which is part of Telegram’s privacy design.
Public channels. Channels are broadcast-only spaces where only admins can post. If your channel is public, it has a username and a link: https://t.me/channelname. A QR code for a Telegram channel is one of the most common uses of this tool, because channels often want to grow their subscriber count by making it easy to join from offline materials.
Public groups. Public groups have their own username and a t.me link the same way channels do. Members can both read and post.
Private group invite links. Private groups and channels do not have a public username. Instead, they use invite links that look like https://t.me/joinchat/XXXXXXXXXXX or the newer format https://t.me/+XXXXXXXXXXX. These links grant access to anyone who taps them. A QR code for a private Telegram group is useful when you want to share access with a specific audience without making the group searchable, such as a group for event attendees, a paid community, or an internal team chat.
Bots. Telegram bots have usernames and are accessible at https://t.me/botname. If you are distributing a Telegram bot, a QR code in printed documentation or at a physical location (a shop, a venue, a machine) gives users a direct way to start the bot without searching for it.
How to create a QR code for Telegram
For your personal Telegram account
Before you can create a QR code for your account, you need a username. Open Telegram, go to Settings, and check whether you have a username set. If you do, your link is https://t.me/yourusername. Copy that link and paste it into the tool above.
If you do not have a username, Telegram does not give you a public link for your account by default. That is intentional. Telegram was built to let people communicate without sharing their phone number. To share your personal account without a username, you would need to set one first.
For a Telegram channel
- Open your channel in Telegram.
- Tap the channel name at the top to open channel info.
- For a public channel, the invite link will be
https://t.me/channelname. You can also find it under the channel settings. - Copy the link and paste it into the QR code generator above.
If your channel is private, you will see an invite link in the format https://t.me/+XXXXXXXXXXX. That link works the same way in this tool.
For a Telegram group
- Open the group and tap the group name to view group info.
- Under invite links (or in group settings), copy the link.
- Public groups have a
t.me/groupnamelink. Private groups use the invite link format. - Paste the link into the tool.
One thing to keep in mind: private invite links in Telegram can be revoked by admins. If the original link gets revoked and a new one is generated, any QR codes encoding the old link will stop working. For printed materials with a long lifespan, use a public channel or group username link if possible. It does not change unless you rename the channel.
For a Telegram bot
Your bot’s link is https://t.me/botusername. Paste it into the tool. The QR code will open a chat with the bot for anyone who scans it.
Where people use Telegram QR codes
Growing a Telegram channel. Channel admins often print QR codes on physical materials: posters, flyers, restaurant menus, product packaging, event handouts. It is a faster conversion path than asking someone to open Telegram, search for a name, and hope they find the right channel. One scan opens the channel directly.
Community access at events. A private Telegram group for event attendees can be shared on a printed badge insert or a table card at the venue. Guests scan it, join the group, and get access to announcements or coordination messages without needing to exchange phone numbers with an organizer.
Customer support and business groups. Some businesses run customer support or discussion groups on Telegram. A QR code on product packaging, in-store displays, or receipts gives customers a direct entry point to the group without requiring them to search for it.
Local communities and neighborhood groups. Telegram is widely used for neighborhood and local community coordination. A QR code on a physical notice board or letterbox flyer pointing to the group is a practical way to recruit members who are nearby but not yet in the group.
Promoting Telegram bots. If you have built a Telegram bot, a QR code in your documentation, on your website, or at a physical location gives users an instant way to start the bot without typing anything.
Conferences and workshops. Organizers who use Telegram for live Q&A, feedback, or post-event discussion sometimes include a QR code in the event program linking to the group or channel.
Paid communities and subscription groups. Private channels and groups that require approval for access use invite links. A QR code for the join link can be distributed to paying members via email or in a physical welcome kit.
The t.me link advantage for QR codes
One thing that makes Telegram links better for QR codes than most other platforms is length. A typical Telegram link is 20 to 30 characters. Compare that to a Facebook group URL or a Reddit post URL, which can be 80 to 120 characters long.
Shorter URLs produce less complex QR patterns. Less complex patterns have larger individual modules, which means the code scans faster and more reliably, especially when printed small. A Telegram QR code on a business card will almost always scan more easily than a full-length URL from another platform at the same size.
For private group invite links, the URL is longer because it includes a hash, but it is still manageable. https://t.me/+XXXXXXXXXXX is around 30 to 35 characters, which stays in a reasonable range.
Telegram’s own in-app QR code
Telegram has a built-in QR code inside the app, accessible from your profile page. That code is different from what you create here.
Telegram’s in-app QR opens your Telegram profile or adds you as a contact when scanned by another Telegram user inside the app. It only works reliably within Telegram’s own interface. You cannot download it as a standalone file, and it is not designed for printing or embedding outside the app.
The QR code you generate with this tool is a standard downloadable image. You own the file. You can print it, embed it in a website, add it to a PDF, or put it in a presentation. It encodes your t.me link and works with any phone camera, not just within Telegram itself.
What happens when someone scans your Telegram QR code
The QR code encodes your t.me link as a standard HTTPS URL. When someone scans it:
- If they have Telegram installed, their phone will typically open the link directly in the Telegram app. The app will show the channel, group, or contact page depending on the link type.
- If they do not have Telegram installed, the browser opens the
t.melink. Telegram’s website will prompt them to install the app or use Telegram Web. - For private group invite links, the app shows a confirmation screen before adding them to the group.
The person scanning does not need any special app to scan the code itself. Any modern phone camera works.
File format guide
SVG is the best choice for print. It scales to any size without pixelation, which matters for channel posters, storefront displays, and event signage.
PNG at 512px is sufficient for most standard print materials when SVG is not available in your design software.
PNG at 256px to 300px works for digital use: website embeds, email newsletters, social media posts, or slide decks.
JPEG is not appropriate for QR codes. JPEG compression blurs the sharp boundaries between QR modules, and that blur is the most common cause of printed QR codes failing to scan.
Because Telegram links are short, the QR pattern will be simpler than most other platforms. That means you can print it smaller than you might expect and still get reliable scans. Even a 1.5cm x 1.5cm printed code often works for Telegram links, though 2cm x 2cm is a safer standard minimum.

Frequently asked questions
How do I create a QR code for my Telegram channel?
Open your channel in Telegram, go to channel info or settings, and copy the invite link. For a public channel it will be https://t.me/channelname. For a private channel it will be https://t.me/+XXXXXXXXXXX or similar. Paste that link into this tool, and download the QR code image.
How do I create a QR code for a Telegram group?
The process is the same as for channels. Open the group, go to group info, find the invite link under settings or the invite section, copy it, and paste it here. If the group is public, the link uses the group username. If it is private, it uses an invite hash.
Can I make a QR code for my personal Telegram account?
Yes, if you have a username set. Your personal link is https://t.me/yourusername. If you have not set a username, open Telegram settings and add one. Without a username, Telegram does not generate a public link for personal accounts.
What happens if the invite link gets revoked?
If a group admin regenerates or revokes the invite link, the old link stops working. Any QR codes encoding the old link will open an invalid or expired invite page. This is a real issue for printed materials. If possible, use a public group or channel link with a permanent username rather than a private invite link for anything that will be printed and used long-term.
Will the QR code expire?
The QR code image itself never expires. However, if the Telegram link it encodes is revoked or changed, the code will stop working. A public channel or account link at t.me/name stays valid as long as the username exists. Private invite links can be revoked by admins at any time.
Can someone join my private group just by scanning the QR code?
Yes, if the invite link is still active and has not reached its usage limit. Telegram allows admins to set an expiry date or a maximum number of uses on invite links. If you have restricted the link this way, the QR code will stop working once those limits are hit. For an unrestricted permanent invite link, anyone who scans it can join.
Do I need to be a Telegram user to use this tool?
No. This tool just generates a QR code image from the URL you provide. You do not need a Telegram account to use the generator. However, the person scanning the QR code will need Telegram installed to actually join the channel or group.
Is there a difference between this and Telegram’s in-app QR?
Yes. Telegram’s built-in QR in the app settings is designed for quick contact sharing between Telegram users inside the app. You cannot easily download or print it. The QR code you create here is a standard downloadable image file that encodes your t.me link and works with any phone camera, anywhere you print or share it.
What is a Telegram QR code scanner?
A Telegram QR scanner refers to scanning QR codes inside Telegram itself. The app has a built-in scanner accessible from the attachment menu or from Telegram’s own camera. It can scan any standard QR code, not just Telegram-specific ones. If you want to scan a QR code without using Telegram’s own interface, you can use this site’s QR Code Scanner, which works in your browser and decodes any QR code from a photo or camera feed.
How do I find my Telegram channel link?
Open your channel in Telegram. Tap the channel name at the top to open the info panel. Scroll down to find the invite link, or go to channel settings and look under the invite or link section. For a public channel with a username, the link is simply https://t.me/channelname. Copy that and paste it into this tool.
Can I use this to share a Telegram bot?
Yes. Bots have their own usernames and links at https://t.me/botusername. Paste the bot link here and the QR code will open a chat with the bot for anyone who scans it. This is useful for adding a bot to a customer touchpoint, a printed instruction sheet, or a physical location where people might want to interact with the bot.
